Anti-Cheat Expert
Tencent's Anti-Cheat Expert (ACE) is based on a combination of security measures and technologies aimed at preventing and combating cheating and unwanted manipulation in games.

ACE provides comprehensive protection for game clients against malicious intrusions such as tampering, debugging and injection, disables malicious modifiers and protects the integrity of game data in memory.

In addition, it can accurately identify and effectively block a variety of acceleration and slowdown techniques used by game cheaters

A core feature of ACE is the ability to block unexpected and exception-driven behavior on 1.2 billion mobile devices. Based on Tencent's safety evaluation standards, a detection accuracy rate of over 99.99% is achieved. ACE enables 24/7 real-time monitoring and data analysis, e.g. for monitored cheats and cheat engines such as "Huluxia (葫芦侠)," "Pancake Modifier" (烧饼). As soon as cheats are detected, the respective game is ended immediately.

Core functions

  • System Hardening: Supports hardening for iOS, Android, PC, single player games and other multisystem games
  • Full text and image verification: Supports the detection and handling of illegal texts and images in the game environment
  • Full coverage of rule violations: Supports detection of pornography, political content, terrorism, explosions, insults, advertising and other rule violations
  • Intelligent monitoring for typical scenarios: Uses different monitoring models for chat, information and room scenarios to precisely identify rule violations
  • Digital Copyright Protection: Supports client reinforcement, platform anti-piracy, preventing the spread of illegal versions
  • Identification of Gold Farmers: Identification of Gold Farmers and Sudios and Identification of Unauthorized Trading in Game Currencies, Accounts and Items
  • Exact crackdown: Punish studios accurately to ensure a positive gaming experience for players and protect the game's economic system.
  • Intelligent Analytics Service: Provides visual reports that analyze information such as resource output and consumption in games to help with decision making.
  • Plug-in analysis service: Supports standalone configuration of counter strategies as needed. Flexible and efficient setup to tackle game cheats and cracks.
  • Vulnerability search: Simulates cybercrime for the core game to detect security risks of games in advance.

Easy integration

Technically, ACE can be quickly accessed by the game client by calling 2-3 APIs without incurring backend development costs. This enables automated monitoring and protection without the need for configuration or maintenance.

Game version updates have no impact on the Anti-Cheat API. Additionally, daily database statistics are generated with lists of cheating players that can be customized based on real-world needs.

ACE also covers more than 30 types of virtual machines and their variants, such as VirtualAPP, Parallel Space, Clone Master and more than 30 other types of virtual machines and their variants. Creation of unique 3-level strategy models that can identify virtual machines in multiple dimensions, dynamically update, strictly prevent various misjudgments, and achieve strong anti-variability capabilities.

Platform support

For the integration and use of ACE in games, it fully supports Java, C++ and C# on different Android versions. Full support for Arm, X86 architecture, supports 32-bit, 64-bit architecture, supports ART running mode; full support for Cocos, Unity, Unreal and other game engines.

ACE minimizes its interaction with underlying system layers to reduce the impact of Android fragmentation, and has a highly fault-tolerant security logic that provides high adaptability to over 2,000 device models for stable operations.

Uninstall

To ensure a complete uninstallation of ACE, it is necessary for users to take action independently after a game's removal. This is due to certain files (as observed in the case of Dungeonborne) not being included in standard uninstallation procedures and thus remaining on the device.

Data protection & kernel access

The debate around anti-cheat systems in the gaming industry regularly leads to discussions about data privacy and the need for extensive system access, especially in relation to companies like Tencent. These discussions primarily unfold on online platforms such as Steam and Reddit. Often influenced by political perspectives and due to a lack of concrete information.

It is notable that concrete examples of data misuse by Chinese companies in games, as well as anti-cheat systems or the games themselves, are rare to non-existent, while at the same time Western companies and governments are regularly criticized for their surveillance and data processing practices. Revelations about the NSA in the USA and ongoing scandals through tech companies have shown that extensive surveillance and data collection are also massive problems in Western "democracies".

I can't say much about it, as the network traffic is encrypted and I am not a reverse engineer. I'd recommend reviewing the official SDKs and documentation.

In the end, ACE doesn't do anything fundamentally different from other providers such as Easy Anti-Cheat or BattlEye. Kernel Access and/or deep system privileges with telemetry data collection are standard practices.

Ultimately, users must decide for themselves whether they want to use such software or not.

Small correction: It's "WeChat / Weixin" and "QQ", not "WhatsApp". Both from Tencent. Count in "WePlay". But yes, the problem in this regard has also exist for countless years and at least the Chinese people I know are not really happy about it.

Vice versa, we often have no way of seeing what is being done by western platforms, messengers, other digital services or state and authorities itself. In the end, they all do the same thing. Only with some it's good, with others it's bad. It just depends on which half of the globe you're on.

Difficult and sensible topic. That's why i also want to avoid political discussions that cannot be substantiated and/or do not fit the context.

While it's true that "concrete examples of data misuse by Chinese companies in games" ... "are rare to non-existent".

Tencent has been implicated in widespread monitoring via WhatsApp. https://theconversation.com/digital-surveillance-is-omnipresent-in-china-heres-how-citizens-are-coping-225628

And given that all traffic back to Tencent servers are encrypted, we have no way to tell what data has been collected and returned.

Given the sheer extent of data survellance made possible with kernel-level access, Tencent's history of data surveillance, lack of oversight possible on ACE behaviour and data communications, I don't think anyone should consider ACE on their system as zero-risk.

Typical CCP-approved monitoring software, half of its measures are for censorship! How surprising.
